Two 14-year-old girls have been taken to hospital after a serious crash involving an allegedly stolen vehicle on Melbourne’s south-east freeway network.
According to Victoria Police, the incident occurred at approximately 10:15pm when a grey Honda Jazz allegedly lost control on Peninsula Link near the Cranbourne-Frankston Road exit. The vehicle rolled multiple times before coming to a stop.
The 14-year-old driver was trapped inside the overturned car and had to be removed by emergency responders. She was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Her 14-year-old passenger was also taken to hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police said the Honda Jazz involved in the crash was allegedly stolen from outside a gym in Chadstone on July 23. Investigators are now working to determine the events leading up to the collision.
Authorities have appealed to the public for assistance, particularly from anyone who may have witnessed the vehicle’s movements before the crash or captured dash-cam footage of the car travelling through the area.
A Victoria Police spokesperson said investigators are seeking information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
