The financial services community continues to remember Richard “Rick” Alexander Rutherford Skae, whose passing marked the loss of one of Wall Street’s most respected wealth management executives. Rick Skae died on May 19, 2022, at the age of 65.
Rick built an exceptional career spanning more than three decades in the financial industry. He began his career at Kidder Peabody in 1981 before holding leadership roles at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, PaineWebber, and Merrill Lynch. In 2006, he joined Morgan Stanley, where he eventually became Vice Chairman of Wealth Management, helping shape the firm’s national wealth management strategy and mentoring countless financial advisors.
Colleagues remembered Rick as an inspirational leader whose optimism, generosity, and charisma made a lasting impact throughout the organization. Morgan Stanley executives praised him for his mentorship, empathy, and dedication to helping others succeed, describing him as someone who positively influenced the careers and lives of many people.

Whether on the water pursuing bonefish or enjoying time at his favorite golf clubs, Rick embraced life with enthusiasm and warmth.
Rick Skae is survived by his wife, Cherie, his daughter, Elizabeth, his mother, Phyllis, and other family members and loved ones who continue to cherish his memory.
Although Rick Skae’s passing left a significant void in both the financial industry and among those who knew him personally, his legacy lives on through the leaders he mentored, the friendships he built, and the lasting impact he made throughout his distinguished career. He will be remembered not only as a highly accomplished executive but also as a devoted family man, loyal friend, and compassionate mentor whose influence continues to inspire many.
